Quail Creek Reservoir State Park, UT

March 7th (Tuesday) we moved from the KOA RV park to Quail Creek Reservoir State Park.  There were spaces available since the weekend was over, so we got to pick where we wanted to be.  We found a great spot with easy access to a couple of acres of natural land.  The cats of course were thrilled to be back “in the bush” again.  But... there’s no power or wifi here, so we’re dry camping again with no access to our blog.  It's totally worth it!  The scenery is spectacular...

Tawny bagged her first lizard tail here!  I didn’t see the lizard, but it must be one of the ones that has the break-away tail when he feels he’s in mortal danger (which he would be with Tawny after him).  The tail detaches and flips and wiggles like a small snake, and it provides a diversion so the lizard can get away.  They just grow a new tail in time.  Tawny came running out of the bush with a wriggling tail in her mouth.  She set it down to survey her prize and I was surprised how much it moved all by itself!  She watched it for a while and then promptly ate it. Crunchy!!

Sam loves all the ups and downs of the gullies around us.  He’s been very active here and walks almost as far as Tawny, which is unusual.  He loves the covered picnic tables and the cement pads. Good for rolling!

The cats, down by the reservoir in the morning

The State Park is on a reservoir so we’ve seen more birds here than other parks, and we’re happy to have such a different view.  The hills across the reservoir are absolutely gorgeous when the sun is low.  The campground is very quiet and, though it’s cold at night without power (and therefore our 2 heaters), we’re enjoying the peacefulness (and beauty) around us.

The reservoir is so still the hills are reflected in the water

This is John’s favourite place so far and so he’s thrilled to have 3 nights here.  He loves the sun coming up over the reservoir, how pretty the hills are – especially at sunset, and the fact it has so many places to walk the cats.

Tawny conquered her long-standing fear of "moving" water here at Quail Creek.  She was down by the reservoir every morning and had drinks out of the water several times... the water doesn't make as much "noise" as rivers and streams that we've taken her to in Alberta.  It's very calm here, and she's naturally drawn to the water.  It was great to see.

The park has greened up in the couple of days that we've been here!  There are flowers sprouting on the rocky ground, and the trees in the little town beside us (Leeds, UT) are starting to bloom and bud out.
